Orientation Chair

Hiring Process

  • The hiring committee consists of:

    • Senior Director – Student Affairs & Services (or designate)

    • Student Success Coordinator, Student Affairs & Services

    • Outgoing UNBSRC President & CEO

    • Outgoing UNBSRC VP Student Life

    • Outgoing Orientation Chair

  • The Orientation Chair and Vice Chair are hired simultaneously.

  • Applications must be open for at least two weeks.

  • All applicants are entitled to an interview unless disqualified under UNBSRC Bylaw 14.

  • Applicants must grant permission for their transcript to be reviewed to confirm good academic standing.

Remuneration

  • Paid at NB minimum wage + $1/hour for 37.5 hours per week (18 weeks).

  • Paid biweekly from May to September.

  • The final payment is issued upon:

    1. Submission of an acceptable final Orientation Report (by September 30).

    2. Cleaning of the Orientation Office to a satisfactory level.

  • Can accrue up to 40 hours of paid, part-time work between January-April and September-December.

Duties

  • Serve as the chief executive officer of UNBSRC Orientation.

  • Act as the official spokesperson and representative.

  • Meet weekly with UNBSRC Executives and the Senior Director of Student Affairs & Services during the summer.

  • Supervise the Orientation Vice Chair.

  • Maintain open communication with UNB Administration, Registrar’s Office, Faculties, and Residence Administration.

  • Manage the Orientation budget with the VP Finance & Operations of UNBSRC.

  • Organize all Orientation events with the Vice Chair, VP Student Life, President & CEO, and Student Affairs & Services.

  • Secure sponsorships and donations with the Vice Chair and VP Student Life.

  • Recruit and train Orientation Leaders and Volunteers.

  • Oversee communications with Orientation Leaders and Volunteers during the summer.

  • Attend Spring/Summer Orientation, Advising, and Registration (SOAR) events.

  • Ensure distribution of Orientation materials to new students.

  • Prepare and submit a final Orientation Report by September 30.

  • Co-host an appreciation event with the Vice Chair in October.

  • Resolve conflicts related to Orientation Volunteers in collaboration with Student Affairs & Services and UNBSRC.

Orientation Vice-Chair

Hiring Process

  • The hiring committee consists of the same members as the Orientation Chair hiring process.

  • The Vice Chair is hired at the same time as the Chair.

  • Must be in good academic standing.

Remuneration

  • Paid as per the UNBSRC operating budget (monthly payments).

  • Works 10 office hours per week from May to September.

  • The final payment is issued upon:

    1. Submission of an acceptable final Orientation Report (by September 30).

    2. Cleaning of the Orientation Office to a satisfactory level.

Duties

  • Assist the Orientation Chair in organizing Orientation events.

  • Report to the President & CEO of UNBSRC for HR matters.

  • Handle Orientation communications, marketing, and advertising (email, social media, etc.).

  • Attend and support SOAR events.

  • Assist in recruiting and training Orientation Leaders and Volunteers.

  • Co-host the Orientation appreciation event in October.

  • Assist in preparing the final Orientation Report.

Orientation Leaders

Eligibility & Selection

  • At least 5 Orientation Leaders will be selected.

  • Cannot be members of the UNB Students’ Representative Council.

  • Must be in good academic standing.

  • Preference given to candidates with previous Orientation or leadership experience.

  • Must be available for training and Orientation Week.

  • Applications must be open for at least two weeks.

  • All applicants are entitled to an interview unless disqualified under UNBSRC Bylaw 14.

Remuneration

  • Eligible for an honorarium of up to $200 (subject to budget availability).

  • Honorarium amount is determined by UNBSRC Executives in consultation with the Orientation Chair and Vice Chair.

Duties

  • Communicate bi-weekly with the Orientation Chair and Vice Chair during the summer.

  • Take responsibility for assigned Orientation Week events.

  • Support and attend SOAR events.

  • Delegate tasks to Orientation Volunteers.

  • Attend Orientation Leader training sessions.
