As the main representative body for the students of UNB Saint John, the Students' Representative Council engages in yearly research and advocacy as a means to bring forward student issues and interests to all levels of government.
The SRC engages politicians and key figures within the community as part of larger advocacy groups, as well as through individual lobbying efforts.

Below is a breakdown of the advocacy efforts that the SRC is involved in, but for more specific information, please contact the Vice-President External, Walter Fuerniss, at external@unbsrc.ca.

Municipal Advocacy

Individual councillors and executives of the Students' Representative Council will engage and lobby those political actors on the municipal level as well as represent and create a more positive image for the SRC and the student body at all city events and in local media.

Provincial Advocacy

The Students' Representative Council is one of the five post-secondary member organizations that makes up the New Brunswick Student Alliance, the largest student organization in the New Brunswick representing nearly 13,000 students.

The New Brunswick Student Alliance gives a platform for student issues on the provincial level. The pillars of the organization accessibility, affordability, quality of education, and quality of life for all of the students it represents.

The NBSA has many policy priorities which shape the way the organization operates, including; support for Indigenous students, increased funding for mental health services, increased funding for sexual assault support, support for experiential learning opportunities, and more. Federal Advocacy

The Students' Representative Council is also a member of a larger federal advocacy group know as the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations, which represents over 255,000 students from 22 member organizations.

CASA's core policy principles are based around the idea that education should be accessible, affordable, innovative and high quality- in order to give the most rewarding post-secondary experience for its member students.
