Too often, university students are denied their legal rights. Whether a student fails to receive vacation pay in accordance with the provisions of the Employment Standards Act, or whether they are subject to an intolerable, over zealous landlord who consistently violates the Residential Tenancies Act, many students simply lack the time and resources necessary to stand up for their rights. As such, your Students’ Representative Council has teamed up with the law offices of Stewart McKelvey Stirling Scales in order to provide full time undergraduate students with greater access to legal services in order to rectify this inequity and effectively restore the balance of power.
Should any full time undergraduate student require legal representation in connection with an employment issue, an academic appeal, a small claim and or a landlord tenancy issue, access to the SRC’s lawyers will be provided, for up to one hour, at no charge to the student. If after the hour expires, a student still requires representation, the law offices of Stewart McKelvey Stirling Scales will do their utmost to provide representation at a reduced student rate.
If you have a legal question or if you would like more information about Legal Rights For Students visit the Campus Information Centre located outside the Whitebone Lounge. You may also, contact your SRC office at 648-5684 or you can speak directly with our legal counsel, Aaron Savage, at the law offices of Stewart McKelvey Stirling Scales, (506) 443-0157.
